Hybrid Work

CIPP believes that hybrid work increases productivity, retains top talent, improves work-life balance, increases job satisfaction, and makes organizations more agile and collaborative without sacrificing workplace culture. Hybrid work isn’t just a policy anymore; it’s a core part of modern work culture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are my rights when it comes to hybrid work?

In your collective agreement it states that all AWAs (alternative work arrangements) must be individually assessed and that your employer cannot act arbitrarily, discriminatorily, or in bad faith. It also states that your request cannot be unreasonably denied.

What should I do if my hybrid work request is denied?

If your AWA (alternative work arrangement) is denied ask for the reason for the denial in writing. Next, you will want to collect all the records of communication regarding your AWA including the reason for the denial. Once you have the records organized, you will want to fill out our hybrid work form. After you have filled out the form, send an email to connect@cipp.on.ca include your name, state that you have filled out the hybrid work form, and attach your records.

Our labour relations team will be in contact with you regarding next steps.

What if there aren’t enough workspace or the office conditions aren’t suitable?

Your employer must provide you with a safe and functional workspace. Document the issues with the workspace (e.g., lack of desks, equipment, or suitable conditions). If necessary, take pictures of your workstation to document the problem in addition to writing down your concerns.

Before escalating the issue, you should raise your concerns with management by explaining how the conditions impact your work and request a solution from them.

Email connect@cipp.on.ca if your issues are ongoing or unresolved.

How can the union support me with my AWA (alternative work arrangement)?

CIPP is here to support you by reviewing your specific concern and the different options available to resolve your issue. We will help you understand your rights under the collective agreement and support you through discussions or next steps. If needed, CIPP will file a grievance for you and advocate on your behalf.

Where can I find the hybrid work language in the collective agreement?

You can find your collective agreement on the Contracts & Bargaining page of our website. Article 40 covers AWAs (alternative work arrangements). Article 40.05 specifically outlines hybrid work.

The key principles include individual assessment and no unreasonable denial. Email connect@cipp.on.ca if you need help understanding how the language applies to you.
